Secrets:
This has to be one of the
most touching pieces I have carved as far as the inspiration behind it
goes. I an usually inspired to include some kind of humour - black or
otherwise! - but this lovely Koala doesn't need it, you just need to
know the story. Initially I was thinking of carving a Koala following
the terrible Australian fires (hence the bandage on his arm). Then we
were contacted by our very dear friend, Jane, who wanted a special
piece to take as a gift on a life-changing trip to Australia. Jane and
her twin sister Kathy were happily adopted as babies. Sadly, Kathy is
no longer with us and jane has spent a large part of her adult life
searching unsuccessfully for their birth mum. Until recently that is,
when something amazing happened! Jane found her birth mum Gina! (hence
the heart with Gina inside carved into this piece). Gina lives in
Australia with her family. Both she and Jane have taken their time
getting to know each other via email, letter and Facebook and Jane has
also been introduced to her extended family who are all really excited
to meet her. Unfortunately, as I write Covid-19 has forced the
postponement of the reunion visit but Jane will make it soon and wow -
what an emotional visit that will be. Good luck Jane and Gina - we are
so pleased you have finally found each other.
