Cypera's name reminds us of a cygnet, the term for a
young swan, which is Cypera's symbol. She is one of those rare beings called swan
maidens who can change from swan to human and back again. As swans they can soar
through the skies or dive through the cold reaches of a lake, freedoms they cannot
experience as mortals. Yet they also know what it is to be human. If someone steals a
swan maiden's cloak of feathers, she must stay human until her wings are returned.
But Cypera is no longer a swan and no longer a mortal -- she has become a faerie of
